Prof. Vern Walker to Present ‘Demystifying Scientific Evidence: Categorization and Prediction’
Professor Vern R. Walker will make a presentation titled “Demystifying Scientific Evidence: Categorization and Prediction” as part of a day-long CLE course on “A Day of Evidence,” sponsored by the New York County Lawyers’ Association.
The course will be held on April 2, 2009. In his presentation, Professor Walker will discuss the use of expert testimony and scientific evidence in legal fact-finding, and he will present a useful, commonsense framework for understanding such evidence, questioning its soundness and completeness, and making findings based on it.
The focus will be on the use of such evidence to categorize an individual in the present (“categorization”) and in the future (“prediction”). Examples will include medical conditions and psychological disorders.
