IRS Grants $85K to Hofstra Law School Federal Tax Clinic
Professor Linda Galler is pleased to announce that the Internal Revenue Service has awarded $85,000 to the Hofstra Law School Federal Tax Clinic as part of its program to provide matching grants to Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs). The grant, which covers the 2017 calendar year, is the second such grant awarded to the Hofstra Tax Clinic.
Students in the Hofstra Tax Clinic represent low income taxpayers in civil tax controversies with the IRS and/or the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, including audits, appeals, collection matters, and federal tax litigation. In addition, the clinic provides taxpayer education programs to various social service organizations and community groups. The clinic is staffed by Professor Galler, Adjunct Professor Lewis Mandel and Post-Graduate Fellow Amanda Ward ’15.
