Prof. Andrew Schepard and Law Students Participate in Town Hall Panel on Mental Health Consultants

Andrew Schepard and Lauren Barth, 3L and Hillary Caspar, 2L participated in the panel presentation for a Town Hall forum on the ethical issues involved in lawyers hiring a mental health consultant to prepare parents for child custody evaluations and to critique the reports of mental health professionals on Friday, October 29th. The Town Hall presentation was part of the work of an interdisciplinary Task Force on Mental Health Consultants in Child Custody Disputes organized by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) for which Professor Schepard is the reporter and Ms. Barth and Caspar are research assistants. The Task Force is developing policy recommendations on the subject, and the Town Hall was a discussion with the concerned communities about the scope and nature of its forthcoming Discussion Paper on this emerging issue. Over 400 mental health professionals, lawyers, judges and academics from around the World attended the Town Hall Forum which was part of the AFCC Conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
