Prof. Theo Liebmann Co-Authors ABA Report on Youths Transitioning Out of Foster Care
Professor Theo Liebmann co-authors American Bar Association report on youth transitioning out of foster care. The report, entitled “Charting a Better Future for Transitioning Foster Youth” contains more than 55 specific policy and practice recommendations for states and localities to support the 30,000-plus youth, ages 18 or older, who exit state and local foster care systems each year. It is the end product of a national summit of more than 100 child welfare professionals, leaders, judges, lawyers and advocates from around the country who explored how to effectively take advantage of new opportunities created by changes in federal law under the 2008 Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act. The act, for the first time, provides states with federal money to support foster youth beyond age 18. The report can be found at the ABA website:www.americanbar.org.
