Prof. Susan Joffe Quoted in Long Island Business News


Professor Susan Joffe was quoted in an article on legal issues surrounding unpaid interns in the August 30, 2013, edition of Long Island Business News. The article, “Lawyers line up on unpaid-intern buffet,” reported on the upswing in lawsuits challenging the use of unpaid internships as violating minimum wage laws. Although Department of Labor guidelines require that internships be educational in nature, not be used to displace regular employees and be geared to the intern’s advantage rather than the employer’s benefit, interns are often asked to do tasks that are normally assigned to paid employees.
