Prof. Susan Fortney Delivers Keynote to Canadian Federation of Disciplinary Administrators

Susan Fortney, Howard Lichtenstein Distinguished Professor of Legal Ethics, Director of the Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics and John DeWitt Gregory Research Scholar

On Oct. 23, 2014, Susan Fortney, the Howard Lichtenstein Distinguished Professor of Legal Ethics, delivered the keynote address at the annual conference of the Canadian Federation of Disciplinary Administrators’ Conference in Montreal.

The title of her presentation was “Proactive, Compliance-based Regulation and the Impact on Complaints and Discipline and Access to Justice.”

For this presentation, Professor Fortney drew on the findings from her mixed-method empirical study on compliance-based regulation of incorporated law firms in Australia.

Professor Fortney has worked with regulators in two Canadian provinces that are exploring proactive regulation of lawyers.
