Alumnus John Ferreira ’83 Named Managing Partner of Morgan Lewis’ Pittsburgh Office

On March 2, 2015, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP announced the appointment, effective March 1, of alumnus John G. Ferreira ’83 as managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office. He is the second managing partner of the office since it opened in 1996.

Ferreira is a partner in Morgan Lewis’ Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice. He was recognized in 2014 by Chambers USA with one of its “Awards for Excellence” for employee benefits and executive compensation.

“We are thrilled that John has taken on this new challenge as leader of our Pittsburgh office,” said Jami McKeon, chair of the firm, in the press release. “His talents will enable us to continue delivering the highest quality results to advance our clients’ legal and business interests.”

Ferreira, who has long been involved in the leadership of the Pittsburgh office, joined Morgan Lewis in 1999, after 16 years in the Pittsburgh office of another global law firm. He started his Pittsburgh benefits practice with Morgan Lewis with an associate and a paralegal. His group now has 11 members and is the largest benefits practice in Pittsburgh.

“The thing I’m proudest of since I’ve moved to Morgan Lewis is I’ve helped two colleagues in my practice group advance to partnership, and a third, we hope, is shortly going to advance, too,” Ferreira told the Pittsburgh Business Times. “Making opportunities for younger lawyers to be able to grow their practice and succeed is one of the most important responsibilities for more senior partners.”

Ferreira is also active in the greater Pittsburgh community, including with Big Brothers and Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh, for which he serves on the board of directors.
