Professor James Sample appeared on Bloomberg Radio’s Bloomberg Law to discuss with host June Grasso the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Williams-Yulee v. The Florida Bar.
In the 5-4 decision, the Court ruled that states can bar judicial candidates from personally soliciting campaign contributions, leaving intact bans in 30 states.
The discussion first aired on April 29, 2015, the day of the ruling.
On April 30, Professor Sample posted his thoughts on Williams-Yulee at the Election Law Blog. In introducing the post, Rick Hasan of UC Irvine School of Law writes, “The following is a guest post from James Sample of Hofstra, who has been doing very important work in the area of judicial elections, filling a key void left by Roy Schotland’s passing.”
