Prof. Elizabeth Nevins Participates in Roundtable on Proposed Revisions to Criminal Justice Mental Health Standards

Professor Elizabeth M. Nevins on March 4, 2016, participated in a roundtable discussion on ethical issues in representing criminal defendants with mental illness.

The roundtable, which was held at New York Law School, was one of a series of half-day roundtable discussions around the country sponsored by the ABA Criminal Justice Section’s ethics committee. The occasion for these discussions is the ongoing revision of the ABA Criminal Justice Section’s Mental Health Standards.

The roundtable discussions, bringing together approximately 16 invited lawyers, academics and mental-health experts from various perspectives, are built around one or more hypotheticals and are meant to provide insight into whether the draft revisions are adequate and sufficiently complete.
