Professor Alafair Burke discussed the depiction of the American criminal justice system in fiction at the Theakston Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, U.K., on July 21.

The festival is Europe’s largest event dedicated to the study and celebration of crime fiction and is hosted by the north of England’s leading arts festival organization, Harrogate International Festivals.

Professor Burke’s comments were based on both her most recent legal novel, The Ex (Harper 2016), and her forthcoming publication in the New England Law Review, “Why Fiction?” which discusses the role of law as character in fiction.
