Hofstra Law Team Reaches Quarterfinals of 2018 National Basketball Negotiation Competition

Hofstra Law’s Dispute Resolution Society participated on March 2-3 in the 6th annual National Basketball Negotiation Competition. The Hofstra Law team of John Zepka 2L (at left in photo) and Benjamin Danieli 2L advanced to the quarterfinals of the national competition, competing against teams that traveled from across the country to Fordham University School of Law in New York.

The competition, which is organized by the Fordham Sports Law Forum, challenges students to use their negotiation skills to negotiate hypothetical disputes and deals involving the world’s premier basketball league, the National Basketball Association, or NBA. The problems include negotiating trades between NBA franchises, signing NBA free agents and negotiating marketing agreements.

In reaching the quarterfinals, John and Benjamin matched Hofstra Law’s best finish to date in the National Basketball Negotiation Competition.
