PreLaw magazine has awarded Hofstra Law an “A” rating for its Alternative Dispute Resolution offerings. The ratings were announced in preLaw’s Spring 2025 issue (Vol. 28, No. 4) in the article “Top Schools for IP, Environmental and ADR Law.”
Hofstra Law is one of only seven law schools that received an “A+” or an “A” rating for Alternative Dispute Resolution. This recognition was reflected in the events of this past winter, when the Law School’s Dispute Resolution Society competed in both the ABA Client Counseling Regional Competition and the ABA Arbitration National Competition in Chicago, where they placed third and finished as finalists, respectively.

Hofstra Law’s offerings in Alternative Dispute Resolution include:
More than 20 courses, such as the Mediation Seminar, Alternatives to Litigation, Collective Bargaining, Environmental Dispute Resolution, and International Business Transactions
Mediation Principles and Practice – This is a “how-to” course that will train students in the concrete skills and practices of mediation, especially as used in the context of family and workplace conflicts. The course will include lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and numerous “hands-on” simulation exercises to help students develop the specific skills used by mediators – skills that are also very valuable in many areas of lawyering and client counseling.
Family Law Practicum – The Family Law Practicum offers students the opportunity to work in Hofstra’s Center for Separating and Divorcing Parents. The Center is an interdisciplinary demonstration project involving the Law School and the Psychology Department in providing alternative dispute resolution, parenting plan drafting services, and short-term therapy to separating and divorcing parents with minor children.
Dispute Resolution Society (DRS) – a student organization which aims to advance students’ ability to negotiate, arbitrate and mediate through seminars and competition.
