The Maurice A. Deane School of Law Class of 2026 demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to pro bono work, collectively contributing 79,513 hours of service during their three years in law school. According to the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), the total value of the students’ time doing public service equates to more than $2.7 million of impact.
More than 100 graduates qualified for a Public Service Award, including 23 students who achieved Platinum status with more than 1,000 hours of service, 25 Gold honorees, 24 Silver honorees, and 43 Bronze honorees.
Hofstra Law students’ pro bono work consisted of public service, performed under the supervision of a licensed attorney or faculty member, with:
- Nonprofit organizations — including Hofstra Law clinical programs — that provide legal representation to individuals or groups who are underserved, underrepresented, or of limited means
- Municipal, state, or federal government agencies, legislative bodies, or court systems
- Attorneys providing legal services free of charge or at a significantly reduced cost
- Hofstra Law student groups or externships that advocate on behalf of clients or provide legal education
